Campfire Cooking
A complete guide to food and food buffs for your adventurers needs.
Requirements:
Cooking requires Cook's Utensils and/or Brewer's Supplies.
Proficiency is NOT required to make food, but will increase your chances of cooking good meals.
Types of ingredients:
Ingredient Grade | Ingredient Value |
Common | 1 |
Uncommon | 2 |
Rare | 3 |
Very Rare | 4 |
Legendary | 5 |
Foraging and Harvesting:
Foraging and Harvesting for ingredients follows the rules of the Gathering, Harvesting, and Crafting Guide.
Dish Maximum Space:
You can determine the maximum space for your dishes based on your Modifier used to cook with Cook's Utensils. You can use either Dexterity, Intelligence, or Wisdom as your chosen ability to cook with. Your Maximum Space is equal to your chosen Modifier. Ingredient value may not exceed your "Dish Maximum Space".
Setting up your Cooking Rolls:
You can add Cook's Utensils to your Tool Proficiencies. Once it is added, you can then edit it using the little gear to the right of it. Once you edit it, you can alter the chosen ability to use (Dexterity, Intelligence, or Wisdom). You can also alter it to "Proficient, Not Proficient, Expertise, Half Proficient". Just select the applicable option there. Then you can even add any applicable bouns' you might be benefiting from.
Setting up your Satiation tracking:
Each serving of a dish will provide your character with not only a buff, but also Satiation. This will be detailed later on, but for now, setting it up on your character sheet will be outlined here.
Make sure your character sheet lock is disengaged first. When that is done, on your Abilities tab, you should see Resource 1, 2, and 3. Change the name of Resource 3 to "Satiation", then change the number value to reflect your Constitution Score. Example; If you have a Constitution of 18, your Satiation value should show 0/18.
Chef Feat:
If a character possesses the Chef Feat. They treat all of their "Meal Buffs" as one step higher for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. Turning all "Meal Buffs" of Tier 1 into Tier 2, all Tier 2 into Tier 3, and all Tier 3 into Tier 4
Satiation:
Satiation is calculated quite simply by using your Constitution Score.
Each portion of food you consume will have a satiation value based on its complexity. You can only gain the benefit of a "Meal Buff" if your current satiation level does not match or exceed your maximum satiation. Eating beyond your satiation max is possible but imparts no additional benefits. If you exceed your satiation maximum by twice the amount, you will gain a point of exhaustion as the "Food Coma" sets in. Pushing beyond that at all, will cause you to also gain disadvantage on attack rolls as the lethargy, caused by overeating gets worse. Both of which can only be removed by taking a long rest.
Your Satiation meter will always start back at 0 after completing a Long Rest.
Ingredients:
Ingredients are not calculated by weight, but by quantity. Some ingredients weigh more than others, and their additional weight does not have any bearing on the complexity, satiation, portions, or buffs of a dish.
You cannot choose more than one of each ingredient per dish.
Each Ingredient comes with a determined Buff. A dish can only benefit from one buff per dish. The cook decides which ingredient is the "Feature Ingredient", and the dish will then reflect that Buff upon successful completion.
Complexity Level:
After determining Ingredients, the cook will then determine the dish complexity.
This calculation is intimidating at first, but when you use the formula that is presented here, it makes it much easier.
First we need to consider the cooks "Maximum Dish Space", "S" for the formula. Maximum Dish Space is your modifier for using Cook's Utensils.
Next we need to consider the total value of the selected ingredients. Common Grade ingredients have a value of 1, up to Legendary Grade ingredients which have a value of 5. This can be seen in the "Type of Ingredients" section in "Basics of Cooking". "Total Value of ingredients", "V" for the formula
Complexity is determined by comparing the "Total Value of the Ingredients" against the "Max Dish Space".

Complexity | Comparison value (CV) |
1 | (0% - 49%) |
2 | (50% - 74%) |
3 | (75% - 99%) |
4 | (100%) |
In order to determine the "Comparison Value", "CV" for the formula. we use CV= V/S*100 which breaks down to: Comparison Value is equal to the Total Value of Ingredients divided by the Maximum Dish Space, multiplied by 100. You then compare the Percentage you get to this chart to determine the dish's complexity.
You could also just consult the below chart as a quick reference:
Chart drafted by: Khaos88
Cooking:
Once you have your Complexity figured out, you only need to get cooking!
Using this table, you can determine how many rolls you will need to make, and how long your dish will take to complete. You will need to Succeed a certain number of times BEFORE you fail a certain number of times in order for your dish to be considered Successfully Cooked.
Complexity Level | Successes Needed | Failures Needed | Time to Cook | Satiation of portion (Halved for a failed dish) | Time needed to consume (doubled for a failed dish) | Duration of Meal Buff | Time to spoil |
1 | 2 | 1 | 15 minutes per die throw | S=2 | F=1 | 1 minute | 10 minutes | 3 days |
2 | 4 | 2 | 15 minutes per die throw | S=4 | F=2 | 5 minutes | 1 hour | 1 day |
3 | 6 | 3 | 15 minutes per die throw | S=6 | F=3 | 10 minutes | 4 hours | 12 hours |
4 | 8 | 3 | 15 minutes per die throw | S=8 | F=4 | 30 minutes | 12 hours | 8 hours |
Success and Failure need not be consecutive. If a cook choses to step away from their dish at any point during the cooking process, the dish is considered a Failure.
Another cook may grant the Help Action to the main cook.
Success:
The Cook needs to succeed the required number of times based on complexity before hitting the maximum number of failures. Once a dish is successfully cooked, the number of servings of your dish is calculated by considering your modifer used in cooking the dish +2.
The time required to eat a serving of your dish is also based on complexity, as you can see in the chart above.
A completed meal will not only provide those that consume it a meal buff, but they will also provide them with Satiation. The duration of the buff, and satiation levels are both included in the table above as well.
Cooked food will last a number of hours/days before it spoils, as outlined in the table above.
A character can only benefit from one "Meal Buff" at a time. If they eat multiple dishes that have a "Meal Buff" the character will retain only the last one they consumed. If a character consumes multiple dishes with the same "Meal Buff" neither the bonus, nor the duration will stack. It will just reset the timer for the "Meal Buff" duration.
Failure:
There are two failure situations. The first is the cook meets the maximum allowed failures before the required number of success'. The second is if the dish is abandoned during the cooking process.
In both circumstances the dish will provide no "Meal Buff", and the satiation will be halved. Time to consume will be doubled as well.

Making Baked Goods
When baking, you can use baked goods as ingredients or enjoy them as a standalone treat. They last twice as long as regular dishes. If used as an ingredient, baked goods provide a default "Survival" based "Meal Buff". You'll need an oven, like a D.W.A.R.F. Oven for on-the-go baking, to create these treats following standard cooking steps.
Baked goods are made from one unit of flour, 16oz (1 Pint) of water, and other ingredients, with the type of flour and ingredients determining the final product.
Additional ingredients can modify the "Meal Buff" and complexity of your Baked Goods.
The servings can be consumed directly or incorporated into other dishes.
The ingredient value of the baked goods is influenced by the type of flour used in their preparation.

Making Yogurt
To make yogurt using the G.N.O.M.E. Yogurt'o'matic machine, you first calibrate it for 30 minutes and then add your Milk/Cream base. The machine processes the mixture for the next 12 hours, resulting in yogurt of the same grade as the Milk/Cream used. This yogurt can then be used as an ingredient for cooking or just enjoyed as a standalone snack. 1 unit of Milk/Cream makes 1 unit of Yogurt.
Making Cheese
To make cheese using the G.N.O.M.E. Cheese'o'matic machine, you calibrate and fine-tune the machine after pouring in the required grade and quantity of Milk/Cream. This process yields the desired cheese product. The cheese can be left in the G.N.O.M.E. Cheese'o'matic for aging, which accelerates the aging process by four times. However, the machine cannot be used while cheese is aging inside it.
